Derek Pearcy

Position: Owner, Sales & Production

History: He first began Taekwondo under the instruction of Mr. and Mrs. Newberry in 1990 when he was just 7 years old. Mr. Pearcy achieved his first degree black belt in 1992, his second degree black belt in 1994, and then his third degree black belt in 1997. He comes from an entire family of third and forth degree black belts and began assisting in teaching Taekwondo at the age of 12. In 2002, Mr. Pearcy became a Nationally Certified Instructor and is now the owner of Pearcy’s Taekwondo in Shelbyville, IL. Mr. Pearcy is also responsible for most of the choreography that is seen at our well recognized demonstrations done by Pearcy’s Taekwondo. He has also accomplished great physical feats such as breaking 7 boards simultaneously with a single kick and doing a jump flying side kick board break over 12 people. Over the years, Mr. Pearcy has developed over 160 different types of advanced kicking techniques that make Pearcy’s Taekwondo stand apart from all other martial arts. He is also credited with numerous inventions and designs previous to Glow Weapons. He has several patents on various products including parts for paintball markers, solar cooking ovens, passive solar heating designs, impact sensitive lights for drums, and now Glow Weapons.

Marisa Pearcy

Position: Production & Assembly

History: Mrs. Pearcy first began at Pearcy’s Taekwondo in 1992 (then Marisa Zidek) when she was just 9 years old, and achieved her first degree black belt in 1994. She became a second degree black belt in 1996, and then went on to become a junior leader and assisted in teaching Taekwondo classes. In 1999, she had completed all of the requirements for her present rank to test for 3rd degree black belt. She continued teaching Taekwondo in addition to her own training, and won the title of State Champion in Weapons and Sparring in 2001. Through much hard work and dedication, in 2002, she had passed all required tests in order to become a Nationally Certified Instructor. She also won the title of State Champion in Sparring 2002 as well. In 2005, she made the next big step to becoming a 4th degree black. She has traveled all over the country in order to learn Taekwondo and various weapons to bring this knowledge to Pearcy’s Taekwondo. In 2007, Marisa and Derek married in Jamaica, and she is now the Chief Instructor at Pearcy's Taekwondo.

Shellie Weber

Position: Production & Assembly

History: While she doesn't have martial arts experience herself, her daughter is an active member in ATA Taekwondo. Shellie has been with us since the beginning, assisting in production of Glow Weapons when we started in 2007.

Credits: Ever wonder who cuts, drills, cleans, glues, caps, and strings your Glowing Nunchakus? Shellie is responsible for a lot of this work done with our specialized tools and is highly effecient at what she does.
